Cincinnati Ohio's The Greenhornes are a pop trio whose
sound has often been compared to the Beatles, the Byrds, and even the
Kinks but they are more than the regurgitation of 60's rock. The
Greenhornes have a sound somewhere between classic pop and indie rock
with a wonderful feel for harmonies, fantastic hooks, and simple, fuzz
toned lyrics. One of The Greenhornes' strongest characteristics is the
simplicity of their compositions with distorted guitars and drums
accompanying unpretentious melodies.
The Greenhornes' lyrics are a testament to an age honored rock
formula: straightforward, honest and free from clumsy attempts at depth
that often have the opposite effect. Their songs range from rowdy to
solemn but always with a somewhat minimalist approach. In the wake of
an overwhelming number of bands who have been flooding the airwaves
with Led Zeppelin inspired rock, The Greenhornes' stripped down pseudo
psychedelica is like a breath of fresh air.
