West Coast Hip Hop artist Saigon made a big scene with
his 2004 release "Undisputed." Saigon's sound is heavy and features
extensive samples and buzzing synthesizers. He steers clear of "jazzy"
backdrops and soft "soul hop" and lays it all on the line with cuts
that take no prisoners and aim for the head. Even when Saigon enlists
singers to add a different flavor to his music, he never settles for
anything less than hard core.
Saigon's songs portray a vivid picture of warfare on the California
streets and he makes it clear that the street life is the fuel for his
lyrics. Though Saigon's sound is definitely heavy, his lyrics portray
an intelligent man who is capable of insight into his environment. Some
of Saigon's songs recall the G-Funk flavor represented by some of the
West Coast's most enduring talent. Saigon's jams are the perfect
atmosphere for the club but are more suited to the streets, where his
music was born.
