Pastor Troy

Mixing self-consciousness and sincerity, into the typical Dirty South rap, Pastor Troy tried to stand out of the bunch of MC"s struggling to break nationally in the early 2000s. When he finally made it into the large label, "Universal" he was stuck between the self-expressing and popular form. Pastor Troy never crossed over, he just remained popular in his region, but yet he is an iconic one.

In his early life, Micah LeVar Troy was born in College Park area of Atlanta. He was exposed to the street life at an early age, but his father who was a pastor, made sure he was exposed to church life. That"s when the dilemma started, street culture, and church life didn"t mix well. In particular he was drawn to his "Geto Boys", and N.W.A. albums, but his father didn"t allow music played in the house. After Pastor Troy went off to college, and was free of his father"s influences he devoted himself to rap, and wrote his own rhymes, and beats.

After a while, Troy put college behind, and organized a group of friends called “Down South Georgia Boys (D.S.G.B.)" They became pretty big, and after that Troy came out with 3 more albums. Recently, in August Troy came out with his 4 th album, “Hood Hustlin" the Mixtape,Vol 1" his songs talk about how he is self-conscious, and people used to make fun of him for his dread locks. It"s a very touching and persona album.

Today Pastor Troy is very serious about his career he is planning to be in the game for a long time. "The music thing is crazy but I couldn"t see myself doing anything else."
