You may know him by his hit single "Welcome to Jamrock," if not, you
recognize the name. Only two when his father Bob Marley died, Damian Marley
still had music running in his veins. At the age of 13, he formed the
Shepherds. The group included son of Third World's Cat Coore and the
daughter of Freddie McMregor. The Shepherds opened the Reggae Sunsplash
festival in 1992.
But, by 1994 Damian was working on his own solo album, "Mr. Marley"
through his father's label, Tuff Gong. He released another album called
"Halfway Tree" in 2001, but other than a Grammy nomination, the album
was overlooked. His 2005 release, "Welcome to Jamrock," however, could
not go unnoticed. With its unique style, Damian mixes Hip-Hop with
Reggae. And whether an accident or a savvy marketing scheme, urban
radio can't seem to get enough.
